From start dates to Disney 100 celebration reviews, check back often for updates throughout 2023.

Let’s start with what’s going on at Disneyland…

Disney 100 at Disneyland

Disneyland is the kick-off location for Disney’s 100 Years of Wonder Celebration.

With platinum decorations starting to pop up everywhere, including flora fauna and merry weather placing a Disney 100 banner on the castle, we are anxiously awaiting the start of so many wonderful things.

Let’s take a look at what Disneyland has lined up for the 100 Years of Wonder Celebration.

New Disney Spectaculars

Disneyland and California Adventure Park are both getting some big changes with their nighttime spectaculars.

World of Color- One

World of Color- One is an all-new World of Color show at Disney’s California Adventure Park. The theme is that small action makes a big change.

We will see amazing light and water special effects as projections and music fill the night sky in California Adventure with this all-new show.

Pro Tip: Get preferred seating with a World of Color dining package or with a virtual queue ticket available at 12 pm the day of the World of Color show. Walk-ins are recommended to check for available viewing area spots 30-45 minutes early.

Wondrous Journeys Projections & Fireworks

Across the way in Disneyland Park, Wondrous Journeys will be a new projection show dancing on the castle, small world, & Rivers of America.

On specific nights, there will also be fireworks included. Typically Disneyland fireworks are on weekends during the off-season, and daily during the summer.

Magic Happens Parade

Zooming in on Main Street in Disneyland, the Magic Happens parade will be returning on February 24, 2023.

The Magic Happens Parade only performed for 2 weeks before Disneyland had to close down in 2020. So if you’re hearing a lot of excitement about this particular parade it’s because 1) it’s amazing and 2) a whole lot of people never got to see it.

PhotoPass

Disneyland will be providing complimentary ride photos starting 2/4 throughout Disney 100 celebration.

Pick out your favorite (and appropriate!) pose for rides like Space Mountain and the Incredicoaster. Then get that photo code to enter online and save a digital copy of your ride photos at no additional cost for 2023 in honor of Disney’s year-long 100th celebration.

Looking for additional PhotoPass details? Disneyland PhotoPass photos are included in Genie Plus, so you can check out all the details here.

Toon town

Mickey & Minnie’s Runaway Railway opened on 1/27 to kick off the Disney 100 celebration.

There is no more virtual line for Mickey & Minnie’s Runaway Railway, and as of November 2023, this ride is now included in Genie Plus.

No more paying extra for the Individual Lightning Lane– yay!

The ride itself has no height requirement and goes slow (with occasional speed-ups, but no drops). It is also dark and loud. If you have a baby or a noise-sensitive child, we recommend noise-cancellation headphones. It’s super cute and fun for the whole family- one of our new favorite rides!

A great way to prep toddlers for any ride or character meeting is by reading Disney books with them. Check out our full post on Disneyland Books for Kids, including how it can help prep them for their first Disney vacation.

Toon town itself will remain closed and under refurbishment until this spring on March 8.

Park Hopping Update

On February 4, guests with park hopper passes can now park hop as early as 11 am instead of waiting until 1 pm.

This is so much better especially if you want dining reservations in the opposite park for lunch, or you see shorter wait times across the way.

Disneyland Ticket & Reservation Updates

Disneyland will be adding more reservations for 1-day, 1-park tickets (the $104 ticket) during 2023 for Disney 100.

If you’re looking for extra savings, be sure to check out our partners at Get Away Today.
They have an amazing buy 4-Days get the 5th Day Free deal.

Magic Key

More Magic Keys are available throughout 2023!

You can upgrade your tickets if you decide to switch from a single or multi-day Disney Park ticket to a Magic Key Disneyland season pass.

Just keep in mind if you made reservations already, you will have to re-book reservations once you upgrade and there are no guarantees of availability.

Disney 100 at Disneyland at WDW

Not to be outdone, there are also some amazing things going on over at Walt Disney World in 2023.

Happily Ever After fireworks are returning to the Magic Kingdom on April 3, 2023.

The World Showcase Lagoon at Epcot will have a new show later on in the year. The current show, Harmonious, will switch over to Epcot Forever on April 3 until the new spectacular premiers.

In Magic Kingdom, TRON Lightcycle Power Run will finally open on April 4, 2023.

Disney 100 Food

Every Disney celebration comes with specialty, limited-time-only treats. Disney 100 food is no exception.

We have heard from many Disney fans that there aren’t as many unique options at Disneyland for the 100th anniversary as there are at other Disney celebrations.

Disney 100 treats, savory food, and drinks are now available! Along with pre-packaged popcorn, chocolate, cotton candy, & Rice Krispie treats.

There is also a Disney100 popcorn bucket for magic key holders. Through 2/12/23, refills are only $1.50.

There is also a Disney 100-themed Travel Tumbler, Thermo Tumbler, and Mickey Mouse Sipper. Don’t forget your Disney100 Mickey Mouse Straw Clip.

We are most excited about the Disney100 Poison Apple Mug. It’s a purple apple-shaped mug dripping with platinum “poison.”

It seems like there are a lot of lemon-themed desserts and treats decorated with violet frosting for the Disney 100 celebration.

Make sure you have some room to splurge on these delicious treats when you’re making your Disneyland food plan.

Stay tuned as we try some delicious Disney 100 food and report back with our review!

Disney 100 Merch

Dress from head to toe with really fun Disney100 clothing and accessories.

The Disney100 spirit jersey is a fun purple-blue and pink tie dye, while some sweaters and sweatpants are purple with the platinum 100 logo.

My favorite is the black zip-up hoodie with silver fireworks on the sleeves.

The Disney100 magic band is silver featuring platinum Mickey and Minnie. Magic Band + is still new to Disneyland, but these bands can be used time and time again at either Walt Disney World or Disneyland Resort.

Top it all off with purple Disney100 clogs and your choice of Disney100 baseball cap, ear hat, or ear headband.

You can’t miss out on the platinum Disney100 Loungefly backpack or the Dooney and Burke bags featuring Mickey and friends in their platinum outfits.

Even your house can be Disney100-ready with throws, pillows, water bottles, ornaments, and picture frames.

The best merch?

Platinum Mickey and Minnie Disney100 plush.

Mickey is platinum silver with his red shorts and Minnie is platinum silver with her red bow and a splash of red around the belt of her dress.

It’s going to be hard narrowing down what we actually buy for ourselves…

What is Disney 100

The Disney 100 Year of Wonder celebrates the 100th anniversary, not of the Disneyland parks, but of the Walt Disney company itself.

In 1923, the Walt Disney Company started out as the Disney Brothers Cartoon Studio. The Alice Comedies were the very first creation.

Since then, Walt Disney poured all his effort into a legacy we cherish today. He was always trying to create the next new thing and was often at the front of cutting-edge technology.

If it wasn’t for his determination and imagination, we wouldn’t have the amazing Happiest Place on Earth we know and love today.
